Class Description

Get ready for a whirlwind of hands-on science fun! In this exciting four-week class, students become real scientists and engineers, taking on a new challenge each week inspired by Science Olympiad and classic STEM competitions. Each session features a unique project designed to spark creativity, teamwork, and curiosity, while exploring the real science behind each activity.

Projects Include:

• Paper Gliders: Discover the secrets of flight! Design, construct, and test paper airplanes while learning about aerodynamics, lift, and drag.
• Rube Goldberg Machines: Dive into the world of energy transfer and chain reactions. Work in teams to engineer wacky machines that accomplish simple tasks in the most complex way possible.
• Paper Rollercoasters: Explore gravity, potential and kinetic energy by building intricate rollercoasters from simple materials. Can your marble make it through all the loops and turns?
• Egg Drop Engineering: Put your problem-solving skills to the test in this classic challenge! Use everyday materials to design a contraption that keeps an egg safe from a high fall, while learning about impact forces and material science.

Each project will be introduced with a mini-lesson on the underlying science, followed by plenty of build time, testing, and friendly competitions. Students will learn to brainstorm, prototype, test, and improve their designs—just like real engineers and scientists!

No prior experience necessary—just bring your imagination and a willingness to experiment!
