Day 1: Rebuild Race – Drone Assembly and First Flight

  • Drone Teardown and Rebuild
    • Disassemble and reassemble a drone to understand its parts and functionality.

    • Learn the basics of drone flight, including takeoff, hovering, and landing.
    • Focus on understanding flight axes and twin-stick UAS control schemes.

Skills Developed: Identifying drone parts, teardown and rebuild fluency, documentation, and first flight control.

Day 2: Flight Skills and Obstacle Course Practice

    • Master the twin-stick UAS control scheme and understand the PID control system.
    • Practice precision flying with stability and control under routine conditions.
• Afternoon:
  • Obstacle Course Practice
    • Navigate a simple obstacle course to improve flight accuracy and teamwork with a spotter.
    • Begin learning how inertial sensors aid flight stability.

Day 3: Rebuild Race Challenge & Drone Joust Introduction

  • Rebuild Race Challenge
    • Complete a timed challenge to disassemble, rebuild, and fly the drone.
    • Test teamwork, speed, and accuracy under pressure.
• Afternoon:
  • Drone Joust Introduction
    • Learn the rules and objectives for the 2v2 Drone Joust competition.
    • Explore advanced flight considerations like airflow disruption, ground/ceiling effects, and optical flow sensors.

Skills Developed: Inventory management, working under pressure, teamwork, and advanced flight considerations.

Day 4: Sensors, Strategy, and Drone Joust Practice

• Morning:
  • Avionics Sensors and Practice
    • Understand how optical flow sensors and other avionics systems impact drone performance.
    • Practice sensor-based flying techniques for stability and control.
• Afternoon:
  • Drone Joust Practice Rounds
    • Work in teams to refine flying techniques and develop strategies for the competition.
    • Focus on power management, stable flight, and communication with teammates.

Day 5: Drone Joust Challenge
